cepezed and cepezed interior design the transformation of the town hall and the Regional Historic Center Woerden. The project is located in the industrial area of Middelland just south of the historic fortress and no longer meets present standards. The building is architecturally and climatologically outdated, non-representative, spatially and functionally obsolete and, moreover, too large for the current, more flexible way of working. The task therefore involves a combination of shrinkage and modernization.
cepezed's starting points include efficient handling of existing buildings, coupled with a minimum of strong coherent optimizations, as well as a natural and green embedding of the new city hall in its surrounding. The interior is entirely based on Het Nieuwe Werken and has a variety of workplace typologies within a flexible layout. In addition, it is highly zoned with graduations of quietness and interaction, with the quieter places along De Blekerijlaan and the places for meeting and cooperation more along the open-side street on the west side of the building. In terms of tone and atmosphere, the new interior has been grafted onto the characteristic strips of the Green Heart area, of which Woerden is the capital city.
